Why do I support Matchis?
I am thisinitiative started because a lot has happened and changed in my and our private lives over the past year and a half to two years. I was diagnosed with melanoma cancer on July 29, 2021, which later turned out to have spread to the lymph nodes in my left armpit. The moment my doctor at the Central Military Hospital told me that it was not good, an "Eindhoven" light went on for me, in the film above you will see what that was like and felt like at the time... This gave me the insight that From that moment on, I would never take the elevator anywhere again and then take the stairs everywhere. From that moment on, never, ever again the path of laziness, but always the path of most resistance!
During our summer holiday of 2022 in France, I conquered the Mont Ventoux running, among other things, to see what I was physically and mentally capable of at that moment. I liked it so much that I took on the next challenge during that run and braved the Alpe d'Huez running a year later on September 23, 2023. The idea to conquer the Alpe d'Huez running has become an annual and personal goal in the form of "my Seven Summits of life", and will run the seven highest peaks of the Tour du France over the next seven years.
I initially wanted to do this purely and solely for myself, but when I received the message from my colleague Thijs Slegers at P.S.V. read in which he indicated that his struggle was unfortunately in vain and he called for registration as a stem cell donor at Matchis, I knew it immediately!
I am also very happy and grateful that I was able to inform Thijs of my initiative just before he passed away. Even though he was no longer able to help me, he wished me all the success in the world to achieve my goal. Since he had very little energy, it is all the more remarkable that he provided me with an answer in his last days. It all the more shows that the light is only off when you can no longer turn it on. This is a great credit to him as a person and only motivated me even more to go the extra mile! Since I unfortunately cannot become a stem cell donor myself due to... With my own illness, I see this as a very nice alternative to do good for my fellow man. My goal is therefore to raise €100,000 for Matchis and to do this by only asking everyone for €1, thus choosing the path of most resistance, literally!. I am convinced that there are at least a hundred thousand people in the Netherlands who can spare €1. Because when many people make this small gesture, many people realize a big gift and a big difference!

What am I going to do in the coming years.....
In the coming years, as I already thought, I will run my Seven Summits of the Tour du France, after September 23 of 2023 was DAYONE 1.0 in the list of "mySeven Summits of life" when I conquered the Alpe d'Huez for myself, my family, Thijs Slegers and Matchis in 2 hours, 39 minutes and 46 seconds. Now it's planned for next year September 24, 2024 theCol du Galibière on the program.DAY ONE 2.0 This top is one of themost challenging that there is in the Alps,34km long, a continuous gradient between 8 and 14% andtwo peaks in a! This peak will be the next peak after minedeep valley after I was diagnosed with metastatic melanoma cancer. This makes me stayobliged to myself around mefit to keep in case there is onechallenge is requested from the hospital and that ensures sure i'm there will stand when you have to... Follow me through my work-up period to this next peak moment and hopefully I'll be oneexample and inspiration for you and, just like me, you will also get the best out of yourself... because... and there they are again...
